Pictures from the terrace in Riviera del Sol

Great views from the deck of our apartment in Riviera del Sol, near Malaga, Spain. The Mediterranean Sea is in the background.

Hola!

Hi Everyone!

We made it to Spain!
The flights worked out fine, Lanaia arrived in London at 10:00AM and I met her around 5:00 PM at the hotel. We flew out to Malaga, Spain in the morning.
We picked up our styling rental car at the airport. It is a Ford Fiesta five door P.O.S. The old ’81 Chrysler K Car was way cooler that this thing. After a 30 minute drive following the worst directions I have ever had (follow the main highway until you see the La Calla sign. Keep going. When you see Georges Bar, keep going straight. Great directions over a page long of useless landmarks! What happened to Take exit 282 to Riviera, Take the exit off the roundabout, at the roundabout take a left onto Street, then a right onto street. First building on the right) we arrived at the condo somewhat stressed to find that the caretaker had left already because of our late arrival because of the line-up at the rental car counter. We were locked out, with no phone. Back down the hill to the shopping center to call the caretaker from a payphone.
The caretaker Daisy was very nice, she showed us around a bit on the way back to the condo, stopping by the shopping center and internet café.
The condo is fine, a little small, but has a great view of the Med from the balcony. We had some issues getting the washing machine fixed and getting some useable pots in the place, but otherwise it has been fine.
We are located near the Miraflores golf course, which has a driving range, internet café, course booking service, and a great little pub. The people there have treated us very well, and have helped us to get settled in.

We had our first guest, Cory Schmidek, who was in Fuengirola with some friends from Edson during their backpack trip through Europe. It was great to see him and hear about their adventure so far. We spent the next day in Fuengirola with him, checking out some shops and the huge beach area and seafront sidewalks and marina. We were a little sad to drop him off again as they headed for Paris early the next day.
We golfed at Miraflores yesterday, it is extremely narrow – Innisfail and Sundre are wide open in comparison. Instead of trees we have condo lined fairways. It was one of the hilliest tracks we have ever played. I think I had one level lie to an equal height landing area all day. The most uphill shot was a hard three clubs up and the downhill shots were always a lay-up. Tough but fun for our first round in Spain. We played with a Scotland Yard policeman from central England and his brother in law who lives here in Spain and owns a poker lounge. A couple of nice guys.

We are planning to go to Valderama, Spain to watch the Volvo Masters golf tournament. It is the European Tour Championship, with the top 60 players as the field. It runs from Nov 1-4. We will try to get some photos of the tournament and the course, where they hosted the ’97 Ryder Cup.
Also we plan to take day trips to Granada and to Rondha for some sightseeing.

Watch for our next post, soon!
